Gloomy January Weather A Positive For Duck Hunter's

Sacramento has been socked in with high clouds and fog for most of the month of January. For many, this weather brings down moods and ruins day trips. However, for duck hunter's in the Northern California Sacramento Valley this weather is more than welcome. Local refuge averages have shown steady successful results. With light rain and clear weather in the extended forecast, duck hunter's are hoping that this fog stays around.
The fog is good for hunting because it mixes the waterfowl up. The pattern that each bird does every day gets thrown out the window when they wake up and see a thick gray matter instead of clear skies.
Not only does the fog make hunting better, it makes it colder. The last few days have not allowed the sun to shine, leaving hunter's hands frozen and cold. Sutter NWR is now open with a full quota. Not only are their numbers high, their main birds are widgeon, Mallards, and Pintail.
With 18 days left in California's waterfowl season, hunter's hope to end the season on a high note, and this is looking likely due to the current weather and number of birds around. Happy Hunting!
